Short answer: Wonderlic does not publish prices. Wonderlic Select is sold on a quoted, usually annual contract, priced by package and by your organization's employee count. Third-party listings put the starting point at $1,000 or more a year (SelectHub) and $6,000 per user per year (Capterra). The Wonderlic test itself costs candidates nothing; the employer pays. The rest of this page explains what goes into the quote and what a small employer should expect to pay.
If you are here because a hiring manager asked "how much does Wonderlic cost?" and you need a number for the budget line, use the table below and plan for a sales conversation. There is no checkout page.
Wonderlic pricing at a glance
| Source | What it says | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Wonderlic product page | Pricing depends on the package you choose, based on your organization's needs and employee count. Every package includes support, implementation and training. | The only first-party statement. No figures. |
| Wonderlic Select FAQ | You can run as many reports as you want, with no extra charges. | You are not billed per report pulled. Ask whether candidate volume is capped in your package. |
| Capterra | Starting at $6,000 per user per year. No free version, no free trial listed. | A single listed starting price. Useful as a ceiling check for a one-admin setup. |
| SelectHub | Annual, quote based, $1,000 or more. | A floor, not a typical price. |
| Capterra review | A customer reports a renewal fee increase of over 300 percent and calls it cost prohibitive for lower hiring volumes. | One review. Still worth asking for a renewal cap in writing. |
So the honest range for a small US employer is somewhere between a four-figure and a low five-figure annual commitment, depending on how many admin users you need, which package tier you land in and your company's headcount.
How much does the Wonderlic test cost?
For the person taking it, nothing. Wonderlic sells access to employers and schools, and there is no fee to a candidate who receives a test link. If a site is asking a job seeker to pay for "the Wonderlic test", it is selling practice material, not the real assessment.
For the employer, there is no per-test price on the public site. Wonderlic Select bundles cognitive ability, motivation and personality into one assessment and prices access to that bundle, not individual test sittings. That is different from credit-based tools like TestGorilla or Testlify, where every candidate who starts a test consumes a credit.
What drives the Wonderlic Select quote up
- Employee count. Wonderlic says it outright: packages are based on organization size. A 40-person company and a 4,000-person company are not quoted the same even if they hire the same number of people.
- Package tier. Higher tiers add strategy planning, extra training and certification programs. If you only need a screening test, ask for the lowest package and check what is missing from it.
- Support level. Some packages include online chat only, others add email and phone, and the top ones come with a dedicated Customer Success Manager. You pay for the difference.
- Users. Capterra's listing is per user per year. If three managers need logins, ask how seats are counted before you get the quote.
- Integrations. Wonderlic connects to Greenhouse, JazzHR and iCIMS. Ask whether the integration you need is in your package or an add-on.
What you get for the money
Wonderlic Select is a validated, well-researched product and the price reflects that. According to Wonderlic, the job directory holds more than 1,100 job profiles, the assessment is available in Spanish and French, and each report comes with structured interview guides, onboarding tips for new hires and an optional feedback report for candidates. Wonderlic describes the assessment as scientifically validated, reviewed for fairness and aligned with U.S. employment laws.
That last point is the real reason larger employers pay. If you hire hundreds of people a year into the same entry-level roles and your legal team wants validation evidence behind every selection tool, a normed cognitive test with a fairness review is exactly what the budget is for.
Is Wonderlic worth it for a small business?
Run the math per candidate before you decide. Say the quote comes back at $6,000 for the year, the Capterra starting figure.
| Candidates tested per year | Cost per candidate at $6,000 | Cost per candidate on a $49/mo flat plan (12 months) |
|---|---|---|
| 50 | $120.00 | $11.76 |
| 200 | $30.00 | $2.94 |
| 1,000 | $6.00 | $0.59 |
At 1,000 candidates a year, $6 a head for a validated aptitude score is a good deal. At 50 candidates, $120 a head is hard to defend, especially when the aptitude score still leaves the job-knowledge question open. A company hiring a bookkeeper, a dispatcher and two office staff this year needs to know whether each person can do that specific job, and a general reasoning percentile does not answer that.
Seasonality matters too. An annual contract charges you for months you are not hiring. If your hiring happens in two waves, a monthly plan you cancel in between costs a fraction of any annual quote.
Cheaper alternatives to Wonderlic

|---|---|---|---|

| Criteria Assess | Quote only, Vendr median about $13,225 a year | Annual | Buyers who want the CCAT and a broad validated battery |
| TestGorilla Core | $142 a month, billed $1,704 a year | Annual | A large published-price library of skills and cognitive tests |
| Testlify Standard | $1,668 a year, 100 credits, $21 per extra credit | Annual | Library tests with a 30-day money-back guarantee |

| Assessing.ai Plus | $149 a month, or $888 a year | Monthly, no contract | Same, with AI that drafts the questions from a job description |
The side by side with who should stay and who should switch is on our Wonderlic alternative comparison. If Criteria is also on your shortlist, the Criteria Corp pricing breakdown shows what those contracts actually run, and the TestGorilla pricing guide covers the annual-only catch on Core.
What if you need a job test, not an aptitude test?
This is the most common small-business case. You are not trying to rank 500 applicants by reasoning speed; you have 90 applicants for an office manager role and you want to know which ten can already do the job.
That is what Assessing.ai is built for. You describe the role, the AI drafts multiple choice, written and recorded answer questions for it (AI generation is on Plus), you edit anything that does not sound like your business, and you send one link. Multiple choice answers are scored the moment a candidate submits. Written and recorded answers land in one results view where you score them yourself, so every applicant is compared on the same questions. For a closer look at how that works as a hiring screen, see our pre-employment testing software for small business page.
What you do not get is worth saying plainly: no normed cognitive or personality test, no validation study, no proctoring and no native ATS connector. If those are requirements, buy Wonderlic or Criteria. If the requirement is "a good test for this job, this week, at a price I can put on a card", start with a monthly plan.
And if the role is really a project rather than a permanent hire, testing may not be the right step at all: for a three-month build or a one-off campaign, it is often faster to hire a pre-vetted freelancer and skip the applicant funnel entirely.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Wonderlic cost?
Wonderlic does not publish prices. Wonderlic Select is quoted by package and by your company's employee count, usually on an annual contract that includes support, implementation and training. Third-party listings show $1,000 or more a year as a floor (SelectHub) and $6,000 per user per year as a starting price (Capterra).
How much does the Wonderlic test cost for candidates?
Nothing. Candidates never pay to take a Wonderlic assessment; the employer or school that sends the link covers the cost. Paid "Wonderlic tests" sold to job seekers online are practice tests from third parties, not the official assessment used in hiring.
Does Wonderlic charge per test?
Not on its public materials. Wonderlic Select is sold as a package, and Wonderlic's FAQ says you can run as many reports as you want with no extra charges. Ask your sales rep whether your package caps candidate volume or admin users, since Capterra lists the price per user.
Does Wonderlic offer a free trial?
Wonderlic offers a demo booked through its sales team. Capterra lists no free trial and no free version. If you want to try a screening test on a live role before paying for a year, choose a tool with monthly billing and a money-back window instead.
What is cheaper than Wonderlic?
Assessing.ai starts at $49 a month with no contract, TestGorilla Core is $1,704 a year, and Testlify Standard is $1,668 a year. Each measures something different: Assessing.ai tests job-specific knowledge you define, while TestGorilla and Testlify sell library tests, including cognitive ones, on annual plans.
What to do next
If you hire at volume into repeatable roles and need a defensible aptitude screen, book the Wonderlic demo and ask for employee-count pricing, seat rules and a renewal cap in writing. If you hire a handful of people into different jobs, compare the per-candidate numbers above against a flat monthly plan, then check Assessing.ai plans and build the first test for the role you have open now.
