Short answer: ProProfs Quiz Maker prices most plans per active quiz taker, billed annually. Essentials is $19.99 per 100 takers a month (up to 300), Business is $39.99 per 100 takers a month (up to 500), and Business Complete Elite is $0.83 per taker a month with no cap. The Hiring and Skills and Certification plans are $1 per applicant a month with a 100 minimum, so at least $1,200 a year. A free plan exists but stops at 12 questions per quiz.
Those numbers come from ProProfs' own pricing page, read in October 2026. Directories such as Capterra and GetApp still show a flat "$20 a month Business" figure from an older price list, which is why so many buyers are confused when the checkout total comes out higher. Below is every tier, what a year really costs at the volumes small US employers and training teams run, and where a flat-priced tool is cheaper.

What counts as an active quiz taker
An active quiz taker is any person who takes one of your quizzes in a given month. You buy blocks of 100, so 101 takers in a month puts you in the 200 block. Admins and instructors are not counted, and Business includes unlimited of them. The meter is what matters for budgeting: the bill follows the number of people who open your link, not the number of quizzes you build.
That works well for internal training, where the head count is known. It works less well for hiring, where a single posting for a cashier, server or call center agent can pull in 200 to 400 applicants in a week, and each of them is a taker.
How much does ProProfs cost per year at real volumes
Because the price scales by taker, the useful number is a full year at the volume you actually test. The table uses Business, since timed exams, attempt limits and audio or video answers (the features most hiring screens need) are listed there and not on Essentials.
| Takers a month | Essentials, a year | Business, a year | Hiring and Skills, a year | Assessing AI, a year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100 | $239.88 | $479.88 | $1,200 | $288 (Starter) |
| 200 | $479.76 | $959.76 | $2,400 | $288 (Starter) |
| 300 | $719.64 (cap) | $1,439.64 | $3,600 | $288 (Starter) |
| 500 | Over the cap | $2,399.40 (cap) | $6,000 | $288 (Starter) |
| 1,500 | Over the cap | Over the cap, Elite $14,940 | $18,000 | $888 (Plus, up to 2,000 a month) |
Two things stand out. At 100 takers a month or fewer, ProProfs Essentials is the cheapest option on this page, and it includes AI quiz creation and AI essay grading, which we do not offer. Past 100 takers a month, the per-taker meter overtakes a flat plan quickly, and the Hiring and Skills plan costs more than Business at every volume because it bundles proctoring, ATS sync and a pre-built test library.
Is ProProfs Quiz Maker worth it?
ProProfs is worth it if you run ongoing staff training and want quizzes, courses, compliance tracking and certificates in one place. Its Business plan is fair value for a team of 50 to 300 employees, and the free plan is enough to judge the builder. It is weaker value for hiring, where applicant counts spike and every applicant is billed as a taker.
Where ProProfs clearly wins: AI quiz creation from PDFs, URLs and photos, AI essay grading on every paid plan, 20+ question types, 70+ languages, certificates on Business, and webcam and screen proctoring on Elite and the Hiring plan. Where buyers get caught: annual billing on the advertised prices, hard caps of 300 and 500 takers on the two cheaper tiers, and a refund window of 15 days with no proration after that.
ProProfs pricing compared with other assessment tools

| ClassMarker | About $39.95 a month (third-party listings) | Credits per attempt, 10 per webcam-monitored attempt | Yes, 2 months free on yearly |
| TestGorilla | Core from $215 a month, billed annually | Shared credit pool | No monthly rates shown |
| TestDome | $100 for 5 candidates | Prepaid packs, $20 down to $7 per candidate | No subscription |
| Assessing AI | $49 a month Starter | Flat, up to 500 responses a month (2,000 on Plus) | Yes, no contract |
If you are weighing ProProfs mainly as a hiring tool, our ProProfs alternative for hiring tests page goes deeper on who should switch and who should stay. For certification-style exams, the ClassMarker pricing breakdown is the closer comparison, since both sell certificates and proctoring.
Cheaper ProProfs alternatives for hiring
For pre-employment screening, the cheapest setup is usually a flat plan with a large response allowance. Assessing AI Starter is $49 a month, or $288 a year, for up to 500 responses a month. You type the role or paste the job description, the AI drafts the questions (on Plus, $149 a month), you set time limits, and one link goes into the job post. Multiple choice scores on submit; your team scores written and recorded voice answers in the results view.
Be clear about the trade. We have no live or video proctoring, no ID checks and no AI grading of essays. If you need those, ProProfs Business Complete Elite or the Hiring plan includes them. If you need to rank 300 applicants for a server or dispatcher job by next Friday, you do not need them, and the flat plan costs a fraction of the per-taker bill. Teams that build training quizzes from existing manuals can also turn a training PDF into a quiz in a separate tool and keep the hiring test here.
Frequently asked questions
How much does ProProfs cost per month?
ProProfs Quiz Maker costs $19.99 per 100 active quiz takers a month on Essentials and $39.99 per 100 on Business, both billed annually. Business Complete Elite is $0.83 per taker a month. Hiring and Skills is $1 per applicant a month with a 100-applicant minimum, so at least $100 a month, billed as $1,200 a year.
Is ProProfs Quiz Maker free?
ProProfs has a forever-free plan, but each quiz is limited to 12 questions (8 quiz questions and 4 lead form fields) and reports are kept for 90 days. It is enough to test the builder. A real hiring screen or training exam needs a paid plan, which starts at $19.99 per 100 takers a month.
Does ProProfs charge per user or per quiz taker?
ProProfs charges per active quiz taker, meaning each person who takes a quiz in a month. Admins and instructors are not billed; Business includes unlimited admins. Plans are bought in blocks of 100 takers, so 101 takers in a month are billed as 200.
Can I pay for ProProfs monthly?
The prices ProProfs advertises are billed annually, and Elite, Hiring and Skills and Certification are listed as annual plans only. ProProfs says you can cancel within 15 days and not be charged, but charges are per full month with no proration after that. For a month-to-month plan, look at ClassMarker or Assessing AI.
Does ProProfs have a refund policy?
Yes, a short one. ProProfs states that if you cancel within 15 days for any reason, you will not be charged. After that, charges run per full month with no prorated refunds. Cancellation is by email to its billing team. ClassMarker and Testlify offer 30 days; Assessing AI offers 14.
Is ProProfs good for pre-employment testing?
ProProfs can run pre-employment tests, and its Hiring and Skills plan adds 100+ pre-built assessments, proctoring, SSO and ATS sync for $1 per applicant a month on an annual contract. For a small employer with a few high-volume openings, the per-applicant meter is the main drawback; a flat plan is usually cheaper above 100 applicants a month.
What to do next
Count how many people will take a test in your busiest month, not your average one, because ProProfs bills the block you reach. If that number is under 100 and you also train staff, ProProfs Essentials or Business is good value. If it is 200 or more applicants for hourly roles, run the yearly math above and then compare plans or draft a test for your open role with the generator on this page.
