Short answer: HireVue does not publish prices. Buyer data from Vendr puts the average contract near $50,000 a year, with a lower marketplace median around $20,900 and a range of roughly $9,800 to $41,000 for smaller deals. Third-party trackers cite about $35,000 a year for an entry plan, plus implementation fees, on a multi-year contract. For a company that hires a few dozen people a year, that is the wrong shape of bill, and a $49 a month test plan covers the screening step.
HireVue pricing at a glance
| Source | Figure | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| HireVue's own site | No prices, demo only | Every quote is negotiated |
| Vendr buyer guide | About $50,000 a year average, maximum near $145,000 | Mostly large employers |
| Vendr marketplace page | Median about $20,900, range about $9,800 to $41,000 | Smaller or discounted deals |
| Third-party trackers | About $35,000 a year entry estimate | Secondary, unverified |
| Implementation | Commonly quoted at $15,000 to $40,000 | One-time, often extra |
| Contract | Two to three years, auto-renewal with about 60 days notice | Hard to leave mid-term |
The sources disagree with each other, and that is the real finding. Treat any single number as a negotiation anchor, not a price list. These figures were checked in October 2026 and will move.
How much does HireVue cost per hire?
Divide the annual contract by the people you actually hire through it. A $20,900 contract used for 40 hires a year works out to about $520 per hire before implementation. A $50,000 contract used for 40 hires is $1,250 per hire. HireVue is built for volume, so at 2,000 hires a year the same $50,000 is $25 per hire, which is why large retailers and banks buy it.
| Annual hires | $20,900 contract | $50,000 contract |
|---|---|---|
| 25 | About $836 per hire | $2,000 per hire |
| 100 | About $209 per hire | $500 per hire |
| 500 | About $42 per hire | $100 per hire |
| 2,000 | About $10 per hire | $25 per hire |
These are simple divisions of the contract values above, with no implementation, add-ons or discounts included. Your own quote will differ.
What drives the HireVue quote up
Four things move the number. First, the modules: video interviewing, assessments, game-based tests, coding tests and scheduling are separate line items. Second, headcount or hiring volume, which sets the tier. Third, implementation and ATS integration work, which buyers report as a five-figure one-time cost. Fourth, the term. Longer commitments get better rates, but you carry the contract if hiring slows down.
Is HireVue worth it for a small or mid-size employer?
Usually not on price alone. HireVue earns its cost when you run thousands of structured interviews a year and need audit trails, scheduling and integrations. If your first-round screen is "can this person do the basics of the job", you are paying for a lot of platform to answer a simple question.
What to use instead when the screen is a skills check
Assessing AI builds a short job test from a role description. Choice questions are scored the moment the applicant submits, so you sort a pile of 150 applicants by score before anyone books a call. Starter is $49 a month (or $288 a year) with up to 500 responses a month, three seats, time limits, recorded audio or video answers and certificates. Plus is $149 a month and adds AI-drafted questions and 2,000 responses. Both bill monthly with no contract, and the plans page lists every limit.
The honest limits: no live or video proctoring (the webcam option takes still photos with consent), no ID verification, no scheduling, no ATS, and no AI scoring of open answers. If you need a full video interview platform with scheduling and enterprise compliance, HireVue is built for that and a test tool is not a replacement. For a side-by-side with other tools see the HireVue alternative page, and for the whole category see pre-employment assessment software pricing.
Candidates prepare too. Plenty of them now practice with an AI salary negotiation coach before the offer call, so a clear scored screen early on keeps your shortlist fair and your offers grounded in what people can do.
Questions to ask before you sign a HireVue contract
Buyers who get the best terms ask the same things. Which modules are in the base price and which are add-ons? Is the implementation fee fixed or hourly? What happens to the price at renewal, and is there a cap on the increase? How many interviews or assessments are included, and what do overages cost? Can you end the contract if hiring volume drops? Get each answer in writing, because the verbal quote and the order form often differ.
Vendr community feedback also mentions an automatic renewal with a notice window near 60 days. Put that date in your calendar the day you sign. Missing it can lock in another term at the old rate or a higher one.
Cheaper ways to cover each part of the HireVue bundle
| Need | HireVue module | Lower-cost route |
|---|---|---|
| One-way video screening | Video interviewing | Hireflix from $75 a month billed yearly, Willo from $59 per live role |
| Skills check before video | Assessments | Assessing AI Starter at $49 a month with a scored job test |
| Scheduling | Scheduling module | A calendar link in the invitation email |
| Structured scoring for regulated hiring | Enterprise suite | VidCruiter or HireVue itself, both quote only |
For one-way video pricing in detail, read Hireflix pricing, VidCruiter pricing and Spark Hire pricing. They use the same year-cost method as this page, so you can line the numbers up.
A worked example for a 40-person company
Say you hire 20 people a year and each posting draws about 120 applicants, so 2,400 applicants in total. A HireVue deal at the $20,900 median means about $8.70 per applicant and $1,045 per hire before implementation. Assessing AI Starter used for six hiring months costs $294 in total, about 12 cents per applicant, since 500 responses a month covers four postings of 120. The comparison is not like for like, because HireVue includes video interviewing and scheduling. It shows how much of the bill goes to platform depth you may not use in a first-round screen.
HireVue pricing questions
How much does HireVue cost per month?
HireVue does not bill by the month on a public rate card. Contracts are annual or multi-year, so a $20,900 to $50,000 a year deal averages roughly $1,740 to $4,170 a month. Implementation is usually charged separately, and you should expect a quote only after a demo.
Does HireVue have a free trial?
HireVue is sales-led and does not advertise a self-serve free trial. You start with a demo and a quote. Assessing AI has no free trial either, but the generator on the alternative page drafts a sample test first, and the most you commit is one month at $49.
Is HireVue free for candidates?
Yes. Candidates do not pay to take a HireVue interview or assessment. The employer pays the contract. Assessing AI works the same way: applicants answer in the browser with no account and no fee.
Is there a cheaper alternative to HireVue?
Yes. For one-way video, Hireflix starts at $75 a month billed yearly and Willo at $59 per live role. For a scored skills test with recorded answers, Assessing AI Starter is $49 a month. None replace HireVue's enterprise scheduling and compliance depth, so pick by what your first round must prove.
