Short answer: the Predictive Index costs at least $10,000 a year. PI's own plans page says the Talent plan "starts at $10,000/year" and scales with headcount, while the Performance and Engagement plans are custom priced. Every plan is an annual subscription with unlimited users and unlimited behavioral assessments; there is no monthly option. Contract data from Vendr, based on 34 deals, puts the median at $12,974 a year.
If you have a PI demo on the calendar, or a partner has sent a quote and you need to decide whether it is worth it for your hiring volume, this page lays out what PI publishes, what buyers actually pay, the costs that show up after signing, and what the same budget buys elsewhere. Every number is labeled with its source.
Predictive Index pricing at a glance
| Source | What it says | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| PI plans page | Talent starts at $10,000 a year; Performance and Engagement are custom priced; all plans are priced by headcount; annual only | The only first-party number. It is a floor, not a quote. |
| Vendr (34 deals) | Median $12,974 a year; range $6,440 to $25,978; average savings 27% | Real negotiated contracts. The low end predates or undercuts the current list floor. |
| Vendr tier estimates | PI Perform $8,000 to $18,000 (small orgs); PI Inspire $18,000 to $35,000 (mid-market); PI Design $30,000 to $50,000 (mid-market), $40,000 to $100,000+ (enterprise) | Older module names, still useful for sizing a mid-market quote. |
| PI FAQ | "PI is designed for companies with 50 to 500+ employees" | Below 50 employees you are outside the stated target. |
What each PI plan includes
PI restructured its packaging into three plans that stack on each other. The descriptions below come from PI's plans page.
| Plan | Price | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Talent | From $10,000 a year, scales with headcount | Unlimited behavioral assessments, candidate-to-job match scoring, interview guides per candidate, coaching for every employee, manager and employee relationship insights |
| Performance | Custom | Everything in Talent, plus team strengths and caution areas, team type identification, alignment and execution action plans, team composition recommendations |
| Engagement | Custom, scales with headcount | Everything in Performance, plus engagement surveys, predictive engagement insights, turnover and burnout risk detection, performance management workflows |
Every plan includes unlimited users with no per-seat fees, onboarding and rollout support, on-demand support and access to PI-certified consultants. PI says free trials are available through sales, and mid-contract upgrades are allowed.
Why the price depends on your headcount, not your hiring
This is the detail that surprises small buyers. PI prices by the number of employees in the company, because the product is meant to be used on the whole workforce, not only on applicants. The Talent plan includes coaching and manager insights for every current employee. That is good value if you plan to roll PI out across the company. It is poor value if what you actually need is a way to screen 150 applicants for one open role.
A 60-person company that hires 10 people a year pays the same Talent floor as a 60-person company that hires 40. The per-hire cost therefore ranges from about $1,000 a hire down to about $250, before any of the extra costs below.
Costs that show up after you sign
| Item | Typical cost | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Implementation and training | $5,000 to $25,000+ depending on scope | Vendr |
| Cognitive assessment overages | $15 to $40 per assessment | Vendr |
| PI certification workshop | $1,500 to $3,000 per participant | Vendr |
| Annual renewal increase | 3% to 7% | Vendr |
The behavioral assessment is unlimited on every plan. The cognitive assessment is where usage can add cost, so ask whether your quote includes a cognitive allowance and what each assessment over it costs. Certification matters because PI reports are designed to be read by trained people; many companies send at least one HR lead through the workshop.
How to get a lower Predictive Index quote
- Commit to more years if you are sure. Vendr reports 15% to 30% off list for two or three year terms. Only do this if the whole company will use PI, not only recruiting.
- Buy in the fourth quarter. Vendr notes better pricing and bundled services at year end.
- Ask for implementation and one certification seat to be bundled. Bundled services are worth $5,000 to $15,000 in Vendr's data.
- Get the renewal cap in writing. A 3% to 7% yearly increase compounds over a multi-year deal.
- Price the plan you need, not the one you demoed. Performance and Engagement are demo favorites. If your problem is hiring, Talent is the relevant plan.
Is Predictive Index worth it for a small company?
PI is worth it when you want one behavioral language across hiring, management and team design, you have 50 or more employees, and leadership will actually use the reports after the hire. It is harder to justify when the goal is narrower: finding out which applicants already know how to do the job.
That is the gap to understand before you buy. PI's behavioral assessment tells you how someone tends to work (dominance, extraversion, patience, formality). It does not tell you whether a bookkeeper can reconcile a bank account or a service coordinator knows how to schedule a same-day repair. For most small employers, the job question comes first, and it is cheaper to answer.
Cheaper options, depending on what you need
| Tool | Price | Contract | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Predictive Index Talent | From $10,000 a year; Vendr median $12,974 | Annual, by headcount | Behavioral profiles across the whole company, 50 to 500+ employees |
| Assessing.ai Starter | $49 a month, or $288 a year | Monthly, no contract | Job-specific tests you write, recorded answers, 500 responses a month |
| Assessing.ai Plus | $149 a month, or $888 a year | Monthly, no contract | AI drafts the test from a job description, 2,000 responses a month |
| TestGorilla Core | $142 a month, billed $1,704 a year | Annual | Library of skills, cognitive and personality tests with a published price |
| Criteria Assess | Quote; Vendr median $13,225 a year | Annual, by headcount | Validated cognitive tests such as the CCAT |
| Wonderlic Select | Quote; listings from $1,000 to $6,000+ a year | Annual, by package and employee count | Cognitive, motivation and personality against job profiles |
If you are buying PI mainly to hire salespeople, a sales-specific tool may fit better: the OMG sales assessment costs $299 a month on a one-year term for up to 150 candidates, and a sales assessment test for hiring built from your own job post starts at $49 a month.
Criteria and Wonderlic are the like-for-like options if you want a normed test from a validated vendor; we compare both on price and fit on the Criteria Corp alternative and Wonderlic alternative pages. TestGorilla is the cheapest vendor with a published library price, broken down in our TestGorilla pricing guide. Every Predictive Index competitor, including Culture Index and Hogan, is priced side by side on our Predictive Index alternatives page.
A job test for a monthly price
Assessing.ai is built for the small employer with one posting and 140 applications. You describe the role, the AI drafts multiple choice, written and recorded answer questions for it (AI generation is on Plus), you edit anything that does not sound like your business, and you send one link. Multiple choice answers are scored the moment a candidate submits. Written and recorded answers land in one results view where your team scores them, so every applicant is compared on the same questions. Once you have a ranked shortlist, the next job is getting those people on the calendar, and interview scheduling software saves the email back and forth.
The honest limits: Assessing.ai has no behavioral profile, no normed or validated library, no proctoring and no native ATS connector. It does not replace PI's management and team features, and it does not grade written answers with AI. If you want a company-wide behavioral framework, PI is a sensible purchase. If you want to know who can do the job, a job test is the cheaper way to find out, and our pre-employment testing software for small business page covers how to run it as a first screen, including the legal basics.
Culture Index is the other behavioral tool small employers are usually quoted alongside PI; our Culture Index cost guide covers what that engagement runs.
Frequently asked questions
How much does the Predictive Index cost?
The Predictive Index costs at least $10,000 a year: PI's plans page lists the Talent plan from $10,000 a year, scaling with headcount, and prices Performance and Engagement by quote. Vendr's data from 34 contracts shows a median of $12,974 a year and a range of $6,440 to $25,978. All plans are annual.
How much does Predictive Index certification cost?
PI certification workshops run about $1,500 to $3,000 per participant, according to Vendr. PI's certified partners do not publish prices, so ask for the per-seat rate in your quote and whether one seat can be bundled into the first-year contract, which many buyers negotiate.
Does Predictive Index charge per assessment?
Not for the behavioral assessment. Every PI plan includes unlimited behavioral assessments and unlimited users. The cognitive assessment can be metered: Vendr lists overages of $15 to $40 per cognitive assessment beyond the contracted allowance, so confirm the allowance before signing.
Is Predictive Index a personality test?
PI calls it a behavioral assessment rather than a personality test. It measures four drives (dominance, extraversion, patience and formality) to describe how someone tends to work. It does not measure job knowledge or skill, which is why many employers pair it with a role-specific test.
Is Predictive Index accurate?
PI publishes technical documentation on the reliability and validity of its behavioral and cognitive assessments, and it is widely used in US hiring. Accuracy for your purpose depends on the question: it describes work style well, but it cannot tell you whether someone already has the skills a specific job needs.
What is cheaper than Predictive Index?
For small employers, Assessing.ai starts at $49 a month with no contract, TestGorilla Core is $1,704 a year and Testlify Standard is $1,668 a year. They test different things: Assessing.ai builds job-specific tests you define, while TestGorilla and Testlify sell library tests, closer to PI's cognitive assessment.
What to do next
If you have more than 50 employees and want a behavioral framework across hiring and management, take the PI demo and ask for the Talent price at your headcount, the cognitive allowance, implementation fees, a certification seat and the renewal cap in writing. If you hire a handful of people a year and need to know who can do the work, compare Assessing.ai plans and build a test for the role you have open now.
